'Magnificat'

'Magnificat' continues to be a very popular composition that has been performed by many establishments. It was originally written as a song in a Nativity but proved so popular it was reworked as a stand-alone composition (including a Nunc Dimittis and Gloria)

The music is written for two soprano and one alto with piano accompaniment. The vocal range is very kind C4-D5. There is also an optional descant towards the end of the composition (up to A5). The Nunc Dimittis and Gloria use the traditional text.

The lyrics for 'Magnificat' have been adapted by AL Hodgson. They still follow the tone and meaning of the original text but are now more child-friendly. They read as follows:

Magnificat animamea, dominum. Magnificat animamea, dominum

My spirit has rejoiced in God my saviour. He looks on me his lowly servant. From now on everyone will call be blessed And holy, holy is his name.

Magnificat animamea, dominum. Magnificat animamea, dominum

And God will show his mercy to those who fear him. He’ll be kind if you are humble. He has given food and love to all the hungry. And sent the, sent the rich away.

Magnificat animamea, dominum. Magnificat animamea, dominum
